First Impressions #5

One of my friends recently visited Sydney, so you guessed it, I asked for something from Sephora!

IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty PaletteOne of the reasons why I watch YouTube is to gain knowledge of products I might have never heard about or looked over. KathleenLights is a huge favourite of mine and I love how honest she is about products. So you can imagine when she says something is great, that I want to own it. She listed the IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette in her 2014 favourites, and this year I vowed to increase my eyeshadow collection so I just had to get it. It’s a mixture of cool and warmed toned matte shadows. They are all buttery, smooth and highly pigmented. Some are more pigmented than others, you can tell which ones by my swatch photo below.

IT Cosmetics NP Palette SwatchesI am so so impressed with this palette! It only cost me $68, which isn’t much higher than if I were to buy it in the USA. I cannot wait to experiment with my new shade range, creating lovely neutral looks and daring colourful ones! The palette is a bit bulky, but incredibly pretty. Something I’m glad I now have in my collection! I wore a simple neutral look today, they blended well together and lasted great on my lids without any primer! I’m impressed.

Now my gorgeous friend also bought me a gift, I mentioned before he left that I wanted it, but backed out as I was spending too much. Regardless he bought it for me as a gift, and I’m so so thankful! The Sephora Collection Triple Action Cleansing Water, basically a fancy name for Micellar water, is their own take on the cult favourite makeup remover. Surprisingly it works better than Garnier and Bioderma, but I think I’m going to put that down to the ingredients. It does state on the Sephora website that it’s more than Micellar water, but boy does it work! It hasn’t reacted with my skin but does sting my eyes a little bit if I get too much in there. It cleans off my mascara better than normal Micellar water, and I love it so much I have more coming my way!

Sephora haulI cannot wait for Sephora to start an Australian website or open more stores across Australia. It’s going to be great to have access to some great new brands and products! Have you tried/own either of these? What do you think of them?

First Impressions #5

Outrageous Curl

I never used to pay much attention to mascara before, if it worked and still made my lashes look normal just darker, then it was fine for me. I’m starting to learn now the differences between them, and even my tastes have changed. I have naturally what I like to call “nice” lashes, I wouldn’t call them long or thick, they’re just nice 😛 However I love plumping them up and increasing their length with different mascaras. I also adore non-waterproof mascara now as well, it’s so much easier to remove and I’ve never had an issue with any running down my face.

Outrageous Curl MascaraIn this post I’m going to talk about my current favourite, Sephora Collection Outrageous Curl – Dramatic Volume and Curve Mascara. I first tried it out in sample size, then quickly purchased in full size! I don’t need to curl my lashes with this mascara, as it really does curl them by itself! I’m also really loving comb type mascara wands, and I like how small the wand actually is. It’s perfect for getting really close to the bottom of my lashes, but also for putting a light layer on my bottom lashes. It dries quickly, doesn’t clump and really makes my lashes look lovely.

Outrageous Curl Mascara swatchAs it’s not waterproof it comes off easily at night time with just Micellar water. You can only purchase it at Sephora, I’m not sure if they sell it at the Sydney store, but I got mine from the US. I highly recommend it!

What’s in my bag?

These seems to be popular posts on YouTube but I thought I’d do one on my blog. I’m always interested to see what items people carry around with them. Being someone who is organised for any situation, I’m surprised I don’t have a back problem from an incredibly heavy bag!

IMG_4639Last year I purchased the medium clear cosmetic bag from Sephora, it’s a good size and doesn’t encourage me to carry around my entire life inside of it. By having this bag when I swap from my work backpack to my handbag, I only need to worry about moving one thing. It also makes it easier to find things when I need to grab them quick! I’ve listed below the staple items I carry around on a day to day basis.

  • My little apple wallet contains hair ties and bobby pins, definitely essential for hair tragedies. Isn’t it cuuuute?!
  • Some form of mini makeup remover wipes, for quick lipstick re-doing or smeared eye makeup mistakes. Also good for when you can’t find tissues while swatching products in a store!
  • Compact mirror, when you can’t find a mirror somewhere or for on the go touchups. Or popping pimples, same same.
  • Powder Compact, for someone who helps produce canola oil from their face, you need this to help remove the shine mid day.
  • Powder Brush, this Sephora brush is perfect for a “chuck in your bag” item, purely because of the cap that comes with it. It’s also an amazing brush!
  • Hand cream, this Grown Alchemist hand cream is by far my favourite in the entire world. I have ultimate dishwasher hands so I need to apply moisturiser 14-27 times a day.
  • Pens, incase one of your fans asks for a signature.
  • 3 different types of lip balm, because your fickle mind can never choose just one.
  • Cold sore cream, kill those things before they take over your face. Think of all the lip swatches you won’t be able to Instagram!
  • Oil blotting paper, again I use this to control my canola oil production. Use before powder, and don’t reuse for baking paper.
  • Eye liner, because if you’re anything like me I sneeze at the smallest pollen atom and then my eyes water. Can also be used as pens, but wouldn’t recommend.

IMG_5303So there you have it! I do also carry tissues and female hygiene products but they’re pretty self explanatory right? I used to carry an assortment of pills and bandaids etc but then people worked out I was a walking pharmacy, it was costing me a fortune. Umm what else, a small deodorant and perfume to tame the stench. Annnnnd obviously purse, phone, keys and headphones.

What weird and wonderful products do you carry around with you day to day? I know a girl who carries around a HUGE bag of makeup everyday, just, cos. I’d love to know 🙂

Sample to full sized

I love samples, who doesn’t?! Especially if you want to test something out you have a feeling you might love. I was quite lucky in 2014 and received a lot of samples that year, not only from my The Parcel subscription but from other circumstances as well. I’m not really one to ask for samples in stores, but in 2015 I shall learn to conquer that fear! Anyway, to the point. I have fallen in love with some samples I have, so much so I want to purchase them full size.

IMG_4480Urban Decay Setting Spray. What can I say, this makes my makeup last all day with minimal touch-ups. It doesn’t stink and dries fast on my skin. It’s perfect for the climate I live in and I feel I cannot live without it! It shall forever have a spot in my beauty collection.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. This lives up to it’s impressive hype. My skin feels so soft and supple the morning after I use it. It’s such an expensive item that I only use it twice a week, I feel that’s all my skin needs. I’ve never tried a serum that has compared to this and I can see why it has an exorbitant price tag. My skins ageing has slowed greatly since using this, and anything that helps me hold onto my youth deserves bonus points to me!

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye. Similar to the serum but this is targeted to the eyes. My dark circles, puffiness and fine lines have greatly decreased since using this. Again and exorbitant price tag but it actually works! Only a tiny amount is needed and I just think it’s simply divine.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless. After much deliberation I’ve decided this is my new love. It helps to create a flawless canvas for my foundation to sit on and also helps it last longer on my skin throughout the day. I use it more for night time or weekend wear as I have a daytime SPF primer I use for that purpose. It’s not that expensive and a little goes a long way.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel. Now I’ve cheated with this one as I actually have a full sized tube in my acrylic drawers. However it deserved an honourable mention! I have never found a brow product I’ve never been more in love with. I use it every day and it makes my brows look polished and perfect all day.

Sephora Outrageous Curl Mascara. I actually have one of these full sized coming to me from the USA. Cheating again, but technically I don’t have it yet 😛 To me it’s similar to Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, yet it doesn’t clump at all and is more wet. I have a sample sized Too Faced BTS mascara but it dried up after a few weeks of using it, which you can imagine didn’t impress me. It’s not waterproof and creates such lovely long, thick and curly lashes on me. I think I’m also falling in love with “comb” mascara wands rather than the traditional brush ones.

Benefit the Porefessional. Using this with the Too Faced Primed & Poreless is a match made in heaven! It helps to fill my salada face and create a smooooooth canvas. I love it and so do millions of people! I suggest you get a sample size and try it out! Oh and it’s another affordable primer.

Buxom Lip Cream in White Russian. Who would’ve thought that I fell in love with a LIPGLOSS. It smells like lolly heaven and it’s minty tingly sensation is addictive. It’s perfect over everything or just by itself. Because it’s super thick and not so tacky it lasts for ages on my lips. I can see why this is a cult favourite and I want to own allllll the colours!

2015 will bring some interesting purchases for me, I cannot wait!

ps – this is my 100th blog post! Thank you to all my followers, I’m almost at 50!

Sample to full sized

Sephora Collection

Sephora is soon to open it’s doors in Sydney and I know everyone is excited. I wanted to talk about their own brand of cosmetic line. It’s one of the lines they are bringing to Australia and it makes me excited to think I’ll have easier access to it. Not only do they have cosmetics but also skincare etc. I have a few cosmetics and a brush from their brand, I want you to know how great I think they are!

sephora brush

First up I’ll start with the brush. I can thank Grav3yard Girl for prompting this purchase because it was in one of her haul videos. I’ve never seen a brush like this before and really wanted something for bronzing/contouring but not so harsh. It was a costly brush, probably the second most expensive brush I own actually! But oh so worth it, so soft and luxurious. It also comes with a handy snap cover for travelling and just general protection. It’s become my favourite brush for bronzing/contouring for a softer look. I highly recommend you look into the Sephora brush line, they are kinda expensive but I guarantee it’s an investment.

sephora lipstick

The next two items are lip products. Oh and red, cos I seem to collect every red lipstick/stain/gloss/pencil I come across even if they all look the same. Colour Lip Last is a lipstick which boasts staying power of up to 10 hours. I agree the staying power is fantastic, but the lipstick does have some downsides. It can smudge easily and then it’s staying where it’s smudged. I’m still yet to find an amazing red lip liner that doesn’t budge to match with this, I think combined I could take over the world. When I use it I more dab it into my lips so less product is applied and I also use a red gloss to help keep my lips hydrated. Unfortunately like all ‘long lasting’ lip products it does tend to dry out your lips. I have the colour 19 Pure Red which is a matte colour. It’s so pigmented and I love it so I make it work. I can’t make to get my hands on more of the colours!

sephora cream lip stain

Then I also have another matte cream lip stain. My first was Lime Crime and I’m yet to find something similar, until now. I purchased the colour 01 Always Red which is so similar to my Lime Crime Velveteen in Red Velvet it’s scary. Oh except it’s half the price! It’s long wearing and super comfortable on your lips. You can drink and eat without it budging. I don’t need a lip liner with this as the edges don’t bleed and stay put all day. I wish it came in more colours, but I do intend on purchasing the other 2 when I can. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a Lime Crime dupe of Red Velvet that you give this a try.

Have you tried any Sephora Collection cosmetics?

Give me some lip!

I’m just putting it out there, I have a better best friend than you. My girl is so amazing, words cannot describe! When she gave me my belated birthday presents, I actually and literally cried. I had no idea she was scheming ideas while she was in the US for my birthday. Of course I thought she was asking for advice on products to buy herself, apparently not. Anyway enough of me professing my love, time to move onto the first gift she gave me.

Sephora Give Me Some Lip

Sephora Give Me Some Lip is one of the much hyped gift sets that Sephora release only once a year. They also have a bigger gift set called Give Me More Lip, which is going to be on my 2015 Christmas wish list! Give Me More Lip contains 6 different lip products, one lipstick, two glosses, one lip cream, one lip lacquer and one lip pencil. The set retails for $25US but apparently is a $90US value. I’d say it would be a $90US value if all the products were full-sized, yet they are not.

The first in the box is the Smashbox Be Legendary Gloss in Pout. This gloss is a full-sized item and it smells sooooo sweet. When I first saw it I thought I had a dud, I didn’t realise it was meant to have no colour. If you go by the Sephora picture it looks like a soft/nude pink however mine is definitely white/nude. I think this would be perfect to top off a bold colour to dull it down and give it a lovely shimmery shine. I admit I’m not a huge fan of glosses, but this feels like heaven on the lips when applied lightly.

Second in the box is the Bite High Pigment Lip Pencil in Meritage. There are 3 things that ring true about this lip pencil, high pigment, matte and long-lasting. I’ve wanted to try some Bite lip products for ages and to be able to glide this onto my lips was heaven. I really really want to get more of these pencils, I neeeeeed more colours in my life. Gimme gimme! Oh and this was a deluxe sample size product.

Third in the box is the Marc Jacobs Mini Lust for Lacquer in Kissability. A highly pigmented lacquer in a sample sized bottle. Another super sweet smell, I’m noticing a trend with gloss/lacquer products here? I love the shimmer in this, out of all the gloss/lacquers this is my favourite. It’s a shade darker than my natural lip colour and really looks gorgeous on the days where I want ‘natural but better than natural’ lips.

Fourth in the box is the Buxom Mini Full On Lip Cream in White Russian. Don’t let the name fool you with this one, as it’s definitely a nude colour. They do say it’s a nude pink, but I’d say it’s more a nude peach. This one was a sample size, yet for a sample size it’s pretty big! I’ve never owned a proper “nude” lip cream before, and I’m still warming to the idea of losing the pinky tone of my lips. I think I need to try it out a few more times before I can decide whether I’m on the ‘lips lost in your foundation’ look. Oh and gorgeous sweet smell again 😛

Fifth in the box is the NARS Deluxe Orgasm Lip Gloss. OMG MY FIRST NARS PRODUCT! I can see why girls go gaga for the packaging, perfectly on point! This is a deluxe sample size and will last a really really long time. Probably because I don’t get the obsession with their ‘Orgasm’ line? I’m not a fan of gold glitter/shimmer in beauty products. It’s a gorgeous lip gloss to wear, and I will continue to try it out buttttttttttt gold.

Then lastly is the Urban Decay Mini Naked Revolution Lipstick. I squealed over this the most, it’s a teeny-tiny lipstick! I almost don’t want to use it as it’ll disappear so quickly. Like the Bite lip pencil, I really really want to own more colours/full-sized products in this line. So pigmented, so creamy and really impressed me. My first proper nude lipstick and it hit the nail on the head. Doesn’t make my lips disappear into my foundation yet dull down the bright pink of my natural lip colour. SO impressed SO need more in my life.

So there’s my first impressions of the Sephora Give Me Some Lip gift set. I love it, adore it and cannot wait to continue to use all the lip products in future looks.

BB retake

So, who remembers the post I did about the comparison between the Natio beauty sponge and the Beauty Blender? No one? GOOD! Months down the track I’ve actually changed my mind! Well not changed my mind, how could I actually review both products when I only tried one? I’ve learnt my lesson that’s for sure.

beauty-blenderIn my last USA haul I got an official Beauty Blender. The first time I used it I wasn’t that impressed, compared to the Natio it was very soft and hard to grip. Yet somehow my brain just kept using it and it stayed in my ‘everyday makeup’ bag.

I’ve been using it for a few months now and I need to replace it! From washing it’s started to fall apart and a lot of the colour has washed out. I really tested it out! The other day I used a Natio sponge and was horrified. The Natio sponge is so dense and hard, it was impossible to “airbrush” the foundation onto my face. I felt like I was just smearing it then rubbing it off if I went over the same spot.

I definitely love the official Beauty Blender and see why it has it’s cult following. I will be repurchasing this and recommend you try it out! Have you tried the official one, what were your thoughts?
